Karma Collins was born and raised in Washington, DC.  She attended Howard University and received her degree in Communications.  After graduating from Howard University she entered the NAB Media Sales Institute, a program developed for minorities interested in Media Sales.  After graduating from the institute, Karma was recruited to work in Detroit at WDIV-TV 4 in the sales department.

Karma got involved with City Living Detroit shortly after moving to Detroit. Karma wanted to get involved with the organization because she saw the potential that Detroit had to become a much better city.  Her hometown of DC was going through a huge redevelopment phase which helped her to see all the opportunity that existed in Detroit.  Also, through her experience living in downtown Detroit she realized that some of the negative perceptions that people have about Detroit wasn’t all true and wanted to help get that word out to other people.
