Bloomfield Hills was first established when Oakland County was divided in two. The region was once used for farming until Detroit citizens began purchasing land to build larger homes with more space. Bloomfield Hills officially became a city in 1932 and is home to many sites on the List of National Historic Landmarks, including The Cranbrook Educational Community.

Things To Do

Bloomfield Hills is home to the Cranbrook Educational Community. In addition to being the highest-ranked school for art, architecture, craft, and design in the country, Cranbrook has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Along with the campus and research facilities, the Cranbrook Gardens and Cranbrook Art Museum are popular ways to spend a day. The house and gardens span 40 acres and offer free self-guided tours, and the museum features several prominent Detroit-area and Michigan-based artists.
